Consultation on Greenhouse Gas Emission Standards

Our Government recognizes that we have a duty to protect the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Under the Paris Agreement, we set a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030. To meet our targets, and to encourage consumers to move towards cleaner transportation, we have introduced measures such as smart fuel efficiency guidelines for cars and light trucks. By transitioning to light-duty vehicle greenhouse gas emissions standards, our Government is supporting innovation, a cleaner and more competitive economy, and action on climate change – while saving consumers at the pump.

The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Hon. Catherine McKenna, announced on August 20th  that we are beginning consultations on mid-term evaluation of our light-duty vehicle greenhouse gas emission regulations – part of Canada’s commitment in 2014 following the publishing of the original regulations.

Interested Canadians should submit their comments below by September 28th, and our office will forward them to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
