2017 was Canada’s best year for tourism, ever. We welcomed over 20.8 million international visitors, who spent more than $21 billion – supporting the 1.8 million Canadian jobs driven by tourism. 2018 is another important year for tourism, as it is the Canada-China Year of Tourism. In 2017, we welcomed over 682,000 Chinese tourists, a number we hope to see increase even further.
A key part of Canadian tourism is Indigenous tourism – a sector that is growing rapidly. The Indigenous Tourism Association Canada recently launched the Indigenous Travel Experiences in Canada series, which are packaged experiences that give tourists a good sense of Indigenous culture in each and every part of Canada. Through Budget 2018, our Government is investing $24 million in Parks Canada to ensure Indigenous heritage is reflected in our national parks, and historic sites.
