Canada’s First Poverty Reduction Strategy

Our Government is committed to supporting the middle class and helping those working hard to join it.  On August 21st 2018 our Government announced Canada’s first Poverty Reduction Strategy; Opportunity for All. This strategy aims to cut the number of Canadians living in poverty in half, building on initiatives such as the Canada Child Benefit, Canada Workers Benefit, National Housing Strategy, and increases to the Guaranteed Income Supplement. Since 2015, $22 billion has been invested to reduce poverty, and by 2019, over 650,000 Canadians will have been lifted out of poverty.

The Poverty Reduction Strategy is a bold vision that will build a Canada where every Canadian has an equal chance at success. Learn more about the strategy here.
